  • Revealing the Archives 23/01/2020

    On Monday 10th February 2020 a talk on the Twixt Thistle & Rose project will be given to Lowick Heritage Group by Linda Bankier.  She will describe what this cataloguing project is revealing about the contents of Berwick Borough Archives.  Talk starts at 7.30pm in Lowick Village Hall.

  • Lowick Lime 19/11/2019

    Lowick Heritage Group are presenting an exhibition called Lowick Lime, exploring the lime industry’s role in the history of Lowick, at the Experimental Studio, Baltic 39, Newcastle, NE1 1EW; 20-22 November 2019.  And on Friday 22 November there will be an event, Unearthing Lowick Lime, from 6pm to 8pm. Part 1 will be an open discussion hosted by Charles Danby and Rob Smith; Part 2 will be a performed reading by members of Lowick Heritage Group of a script written by social historian Julie Gibbs.     As part of an academic research project on livestock farming, an afternoon of listening and conversation is being held at The Maltings on Monday 18 November 2019, 2.00-4.30pm.

    Cattle and sheep were once a common sight and sound in market towns as well as country lanes. When, where and how do you remember them? From childhood or as part of working life? From far away or close enough to touch? As dangerous or friendly beasts? As a source of food or livelihood? Do any individual animals or events stand out?
