The Till Valley Archaeological Society (TillVAS) has moved into new premises at Ford Forge, adjacent to the Heatherslaw Railway, and they are holding Open Days on Saturdays 9th and 16th April 2022, 10.00am – 3.00pm. In the Display Room there will be objects illustrating the industries and activities which have been pursued there (a spade and nail factory, a textile mill, a sawmill, a chapel) as well as old maps and details about the families who lived there. Northumberland Archives Trust (NACT) has organised a series of evening online lectures by academic experts with regional links. The lecture on Thursday 31 March 2022 is entitled “What did the Guild know? Politics and information in later C18th Berwick” and it will be given by Dr Ian Harris. He will explore the means by which information about London life and politics could be acquired in Berwick at a time when its ruling body, the Guild, had its own powers of government. Our Spring Lecture, “The Archives of the Duke of Northumberland at Alnwick Castle”, will be given on Friday 25th March 2022 by Christopher Hunwick. He is the archivist at Alnwick Castle where the archive contains the papers of the Percy family and the business papers of the Northumberland Estates, and his talk will highlight material relating to North Northumberland.
