BERWICK ADVERTISER, 16 April 1934

DEATH OF BERWICK RAILWAYMAN
MR FRANK LOUGH

The death took place on Friday evening of Mr Frank Lough, Osborne Place, Tweedmouth, a member of a very old Berwick family and a well known engine driver.
Mr Lough was fireman of one of the goods trains which was involved in the serious smash at Lucker in February of last year. He had a remarkable escape when the cab of the engine was struck by a projection on the other train, but he scrambled through the snow nearly quarter of a mile to a signal box. It is said that Mr Lough never fully recovered from the effects of the accident. He was able to return to work, however, but on Friday evening he died following a relapse after a recent illness.
Mr Lough, who was a Freeman of the Borough, was the eighth son of Mr and Mrs William Lough, who lived in Low Greens for many years, and he had been on the railway for 23 years Latterly he has been a goods driver on the Berwickshire line.
He is survived by his wife and a young family, the eldest of whom, William, is employed by Messrs William Patterson and Son. Drapers, Berwick.
The funeral on Tuesday to Berwick Cemetery was largely attended by many relatives, fellow workmen and others.
