  • Memoirs and archives 06/10/2022

    As part of the Berwick Literary Festival on 16 October 2022, at 4.30pm, Elizabeth Wilson will be in conversation with Linda Bankier about the book, The Memoirs of Jock Wilson: A Berwick Boyhood Between the Wars. They will talk about the process by which the book came into being and the role of archives and other source materials.

    The talk will take place in Holy Trinity Parish Church and is scheduled to last for one hour. Tickets cost £5 and can be bought through the Festival website.

  • Heritage Open Days 2022 08/09/2022

    This year’s Heritage Open Days are being held on 9th – 18th September 2022.  In Berwick the main ‘in person’ events will be from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th September, and as usual many sites and buildings will be open to the public, free of charge, including some which are not normally accessible.

  • Berwick Infirmary excavations 01/09/2022

    The Border Archaeology Society holds its 25th anniversary lecture on Monday 5 September 2022.  Steven Collison will speak about “Berwick Infirmary excavations: footsteps through a mediaeval town”, reviewing the discoveries from the recent work on the Infirmary site and what they reveal about mediaeval Berwick.

    The lecture begins at 7.30pm in Berwick Guildhall.  Admisstion is free, donations welcome.

  • Jubilee exhibition 13/05/2022

    A photographic exhibition, “Berwick-upon-Tweed 1952-2022”, to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be held in Berwick Town Hall on Saturday 4th June (10.00am – 4.00pm) and Sunday 5th June (11.00am – 4.00pm).  Material from the archives will be used to illustrate the town’s history during the Queen’s reign, including some of the royal visits here.  A Timeline for Berwick 1952-2022 is being produced, and there will also be some archive films shown in the Council Chamber.

    Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

  • Museum open 06/04/2022

    Berwick Museum & Art Gallery is open for its 2022 season from Wednesday 6th April.  The regular opening hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 10.00am – 4.00pm;  additionally during the Northumberland school summer holidays it will be open every day.  Members of FBDMA are admitted free;  for other admission charges see the Museum website.

    The Museum has a special exhibition this season called ‘Of the Sea and Of the Sky’ which shines a spotlight on the rich diversity...
