  • Historic Towns Trust 06/04/2022

    A presentation to Berwick Civic Society on the Historic Towns Trust and their plans to collaborate on the creation of a historic map of Berwick will be given by Dr Julian Munby, former Head of Buildings at Oxford Archaeology, on Wednesday 13 April 2022 in the Parish Centre.

    The talk will follow the AGM of the Civic Society which starts at 7.00pm.  There is a £2.00 admission charge for non-members.  More details on their website.

  • TillVAS at Ford Forge 01/04/2022

    The Till Valley Archaeological Society (TillVAS) has moved into new premises at Ford Forge, adjacent to the Heatherslaw Railway, and they are holding Open Days on Saturdays 9th and 16th April 2022, 10.00am – 3.00pm.  In the Display Room there will be objects illustrating the industries and activities which have been pursued there (a spade and nail factory, a textile mill, a sawmill, a chapel) as well as old maps and details about the families who lived there. 

    Entry is free, and there will be activities for children.  There is a public car park, and refreshments are available at the Boes Café at Heatherslaw...

  • Berwick’s Guild 21/03/2022

    Northumberland Archives Trust (NACT) has organised a series of evening online lectures by academic experts with regional links.  The lecture on Thursday 31 March 2022 is entitled “What did the Guild know? Politics and information in later C18th Berwick” and it will be given by Dr Ian Harris. He will explore the means by which information about London life and politics could be acquired in Berwick at a time when its ruling body, the Guild, had its own powers of government.

  • Archives at Alnwick Castle 20/03/2022

    Our Spring Lecture, “The Archives of the Duke of Northumberland at Alnwick Castle”, will be given on Friday 25th March 2022 by Christopher Hunwick. He is the archivist at Alnwick Castle where the archive contains the papers of the Percy family and the business papers of the Northumberland Estates, and his talk will highlight material relating to North Northumberland. 

    The event will start at 7.00pm in the Conference Room of the William Elder Building (56-58 Castlegate, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 1JT).  Admission free.

  • History of the Parks 10/02/2022

    On Wednesday 2nd March 2022, a talk on “A history of Berwick’s Castle Parks and Flagstaff Park” will be given by Linda Bankier and Jim Herbert. It will take place in the Parish Centre (Parade) at 7.00pm.  Tickets cost £3.50 in advance from Berwick Visitor Centre (Walkergate), or £4.00 on the door.

    This is one of the winter events organised by the Friends of Castle Parks.
