A series of free lectures and films commemorating World War 1 is being presented by Belford & District Hidden History, between January and March 2017: Sun 15 January – 3pm in Ferguson Hall The Battle of the Somme – the original official 1916 documentary silent film. Sun 19 February – 2.30pm at Bell View Resource Centre “Trench Art” – an illustrated lecture and display by Andrew Marriott of Newcastle University. Sun 5 March – 2.30pm at Bell View Resource Centre

David Constantine gave the FBDMA autumn lecture on Friday 4th November 2016 in the Parish Centre, Berwick-upon-Tweed. He spoke on “Bone and Antler in History and Archaeology”, examining what can be learned about the past from the study of animal archaeological remains, and he brought with him a large assortment of artefacts and archaeological examples to illustrate his talk. Berwick Museum & Art Gallery will be open during the schools’ autumn half-term. Saturday 22 October – Sunday 30 October 2016 11.00am – 4.00pm each day. The exhibition of nearly all of the Burrell Collection paintings will still be on display, and there will be children’s activities arranged during the week. On Saturday 22 October, The Big Draw comes to Berwick and there will be arts and crafts activities on that day.

One of the numerous events on offer is a talk by archivist Linda Bankier entitled *Hidden Treasures and Inspiration – Tales from Berwick Archives”.
