Record Office
  • Record Office users 19/05/2017

    From 1st June 2017, all users of the Record Office will need to register for a CARN card (County Archive Research Network – a national scheme run by the Archives and Records Association). This means that on your next visit to the Record Office you should bring with you some proof of identity showing your name, permanent address, and signature.  Acceptable forms of identification are as follows:

    Driving licence (name, address and signature)
  • The Fifties in Focus 27/03/2017

    A book of photographs of Berwick and the district during the 1950s has recently been published by The Friends and the Record Office, under the title THE FIFTIES IN FOCUS. It features 58 pictures from the Photocentre Collection, which was purchased by the Record Office with assistance from The Friends after the Photocentre in Bridge Street closed in 2012. The photographs in the book include some now vanished buildings and businesses, public occasions and ceremonies, trades and employment, sports and pastimes, and some unusual events and curiosities.

    On Saturday 18 February 2017, at 10.00am, Linda Bankier will give a talk about Berwick Families to the North Northumberland branch of the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society.  It takes place at the Bell View Resource Centre, 33 West Street,  Belford.

  • Literary Festival 09/10/2016

    Berwick Literary Festival takes place from 20th to 23rd October 2016. One of the numerous events on offer is a talk by archivist Linda Bankier entitled *Hidden Treasures and Inspiration – Tales from Berwick Archives”.  It takes place at 12 noon on Friday 21st October in the Holy Trinity Parish Centre. Tickets £5, available from The Maltings.

  • Record Office move 30/06/2016

    From Wednesday 6 July 2016, the Record Office will be open to the public in its new accommodation in the refurbished Walkergate building – on the first floor alongside Berwick Library. 

    The opening hours remain the same:  Wednesday & Thursday, 9.30-1.00 and 2.00-5.00.

    Anyone who wishes to consult original documents should contact the Record Office in advance to order the materials and to make an appointment.

    There will be free wi-fi available in the new premises.
