Dr Beth Elliott will give a talk about “The Phipps of Barmoor collection” on Thursday 24 April 2025 in Lowick Village Hall at 7.30pm. Beth has been listing the collection, which is held by Northumberland Archives, and she will talk about what she has found.
The collection contains deeds, plans, accounts and estate papers relating to the Phipps family of Barmoor. Most relate to Samuel Phipps and concern his properties in London, Yorkshire and Northumberland. There are also some manorial documents. The Phipps were predecessors of the Sitwell family. Most of the collection dates from the 18th century. A project to work on the collection so that public access can be provided through the online catalogue has been sponsored by the Northumberland Archives Charitable Trust by means of a grant from the Barmoor Wind Farm Community Fund.
