The FBDMA Spring Lecture and Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday 16 March 2018, in the Parish Centre, Berwick. Dr Catherine Kent will give a lecture about Elizabethan Berwick, entitled “‘One perfytt Booke’: the 1562 survey of Berwick-upon-Tweed”. The AGM will begin at 7pm. The lecture will begin, after refreshments, at approximately 7.45pm. All welcome.

An exhibition of photographs from the Photocentre collection, now held by Berwick Record Office, is being presented by Berwick Visual Arts at the Granary Gallery, from 27 January until 13 May 2018. It tells the story of the photo news agency founded in Berwick by David Smith in 1951, and continued by his son Ian in their Bridge Street premises until its closure in 2012. The exhibition is entitled The Archive of Smith, Berwick: From Photo-News Service to Photo Centre and it is curated by Cameron Robertson with Kate Best. Belford & District Hidden History has two forthcoming events in its series commemorating World War 1. On Sunday 21 January 2018 there will be a screening of the film “Testament of Youth”, based on the book by Vera Brittain (free admission). And on Sunday 4 February Lucy Adlington will give a talk on “V for Victory: life on the Home Front in World War One” (admission by ticket only; phone 01668 219653). Both events begin at 2.30pm in the Ferguson Hall, Nursery Lane, Belford.

A new book, “A Tale of Two Mills: Spindlestone & Waren, 1735-1914”, has been written by Jane Bowen and Karon Ives, and published by Belford & District Hidden History Museum. The book is being launched on Tuesday 28 November 2017 at an event at Bell View Resource Centre (West Street, Belford), 6.00-8.00pm. The history of these two mills has been explored in connnection with the Peregrini Project.
