The construction of Berwick Parish Church began in 1650, and as part of the events to celebrate its 375th anniversary, an illustrated talk will be given by Professor Kenneth Fincham of the University of Kent in the Parish Centre on Friday 24th October 2025 at 7:00pm. The talk is entitled “A New Church in Tumultuous Times – Berwick Parish Church and the Puritan Revolution of 1640-60”.
Professor Fincham has written extensively on religion and politics in Tudor and Stuart England. He is a former Vice-President of the Royal Historical Society and an Honorary Fellow of the Historical Association. Among his books are Prelate as Pastor: the Episcopate of King James I (1990) and, co-authored with Nicholas Tyacke, Altars Restored: the Changing Face of English Religious Worship 1547-c.1700 (2007).
The talk will be followed by an opportunity for questions, and refreshments.
