During 2024-2025 a project was undertaken, “Life in Kyloe Parish – Past and Present”,  with the aim of bringing the community together and helping it appreciate its past, and also of recording elements of its present that future generations might want to know.  Specific objectives were:

  • to document the history and life of Kyloe Parish in the past through oral history recordings and the collection of other archive material
  • to involve people in the community in finding out about their past
  • to preserve the oral histories and material collected in the Berwick Record Office

The work was carried out by residents of the parish, supported by the staff of Berwick Record Office.  The results from the project included:

  • A set of digitised images about the area from the past, together with some modern photographs (buildings and people) to create a contemporary archive. These have been ingested into Preservica (digital content system) to ensure their permanent preservation in the Record Office.

The Kyloe Project media page displays examples from the digitised photo collection.  It also has a summary of the oral history recordings.
