  • Talks and Tours 31/08/2014

    A talk on “Berwick’s Built Heritage: A History of Berwick’s Buildings through the Archives” will be given by Linda Bankier on Tuesday 9 September 2014, 2.00-3.30pm.  In Berwick Library.  Admission free.

    Another talk by Linda on “Crime in Berwick” will be held in the Magistrates’ Court (40 Church Street, Berwick) on Friday 12 September at 3.00pm.  More details can be found at this link.

    Heritage Open Days this year are on 11 – 14 September.  Linda Bankier will be giving tours...

  • Bygone Borderlands 27/08/2014

    A Bygone Borderlands event is being held at The Haining in Selkirk on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September 2014. There will be talks, displays, and chilldren’s activities. The Berwick Record Office and the Flodden Transcription Project will both be represented at the event.

    Open 10am – 4pm.  Admission free.

    A coach will run free of charge from Selkirk High car park on a regular basis to bring visitors on and off site.

  • Eleanor’s Diary 22/08/2014

    A recently published book, “Eleanor’s Diary” transcribed and edited by Joan Wright, may be of particular interest to those with connections around Berwick upon Tweed..

    Eleanor Weatherly was the feisty 20 year old daughter of a widowed gentleman farmer, living with her brothers and sister at Outchester House near Belford in the north of Northumberland.

    Her diary was written in 1804 and 1805 against a background of the Napoleonic wars. In common with girls of her age, she was primarily occupied with fashion, balls and eligible young men!  Nevertheless her diary gives a fascinating glimpse of life at the time...
